Our History

Hargeisa Group Hospital is the main national referral hospital located in the capital city of Hargeisa, home to over one million people. HGH was built in 1953 by the British administration. It has served not only the residents of Hargeisa but also a larger number of people from the districts and other regions who rely on the quality and affordable services it provides to citizens. The hospital consists of six main wards, almost thirty departments/units and almost 700 staff in a variety of professions and categories, including specialists, administrative support staff and ancillary staff.  Research center will be the first research hospital center in the whole of Somaliland. This center established recently by vision from Hospital Director Abdirahman Mohamed Osman and team of research expert. This center is the first of its kind to engage in research in the areas of health quality improvement system. The research center will aim to focus on quality improvement through research and learning. Focusing on identifying ways to increase patient outcomes and experiences at the hospital. Through setting important hospital needs and priorities to share with interested institutions and donors. In addition, the research team will advise and lead all external applications for research projects from universities and other organizations.
